The Emissions Trading Scheme
Could the ETS support
your aspirations for the whenua?
The Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) is New Zealand’s framework for accounting for greenhouse gas emissions. Eligible forests can earn New Zealand Units (NZUs). Whether participation is appropriate depends on the forest, the costs and responsibilities involved, and your plans for the whenua.
We bring together mapping, forest history, indicative financial scenarios and an explanation of obligations so owners and governance groups can weigh the opportunity before deciding whether to proceed. Appointing an ETS representative does not remove the participant’s responsibilities. Read MPI’s guidance on ETS responsibilities.
